Frequently asked questions

Start with the things people ask us most.

All troubleshooting
Why didn’t a window open after installing DevCleaner?

DevCleaner lives in the macOS menu bar. Look for the wand near the clock, then choose Open to show the main window. If the menu bar is crowded, check its overflow menu.

Read the setup guide ↗
Does a scan delete anything?

No. Scanning only measures disk use. DevCleaner deletes files only after you choose Quick Clean or confirm Clean Now.

Learn how cleaning works ↗
What is safe to clean first?

Start with Quick Clean. It uses preselected Safe categories, such as rebuildable caches. Review Warning and Danger items manually in the main window before cleaning.

Understand risk levels ↗
Will cleaning sign me out of my apps?

Ordinary cleanup protects cookies, sessions, credentials, and SSH keys. Dangerous+ is a separate, explicit uninstall action that can remove an app’s data.

Read the safety model ↗
Is DevCleaner free?

Scanning and Safe cleanup are free without an account. On new installs, Warning and Danger cleanup, custom folders, and automation need Pro. A trial does not start a subscription. Restoring a hibernated project stays free.

Compare Free and Pro ↗
How many Macs can use one license?

A license works on up to three Macs you own. If you are moving to a new Mac, deactivate an old device first.

License help ↗
What if Admin Clean says its helper needs repair?

Open Settings → General → Admin Clean Helper and choose Install or Repair. If macOS asks, approve DevCleaner Helper in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions.

Follow the troubleshooting steps ↗
Why did some items fail to delete?

Some files may be in use or require additional permission. Quit the related app, review the failed items, then try again. Admin-owned paths may need Admin Clean.
